Our Kick Off at the Streetcar Station was an awesome time! The whole night was filled with this spirit of adventure and expectation, the food was delicious, the worship was spontaneous, and Holy Spirit was present in a powerful way.
This is a year different than any other year in the time I’ve been at Grace. The Lord God has brought us so many amazing people and provided us with so much opportunity, at times it’s difficult to believe it’s all really happening. We also have truly unique challenges ahead that we’ll need to face together.
I wanted to summarize some of the things we learned at the kick off both as a follow up and to catch up those of us who couldn’t make it. We covered a ton of ground and talked a lot about our growth as individuals and as a team. These events are the primary way for our people to hear about the vision and future of our church so it’s important to keep us all on the same page.
Our philosophy of serving at Grace
Community = VITAL
Introducing our Core Leaders
As a Worship Department we worked very hard over the last few months to distill what exactly we want our congregation to do, and what we want our teams to do. What is it we’re trying to encourage, train, or ‘mobilize’ our people to accomplish?
Through the process of wrestling with this question we came up with two answers, or statements, one for the congregation and one for our teams.
We want to mobilize our congregation to expect encounters with God in everyday life
We want our team to be living lives of worship and serve from an overflow
As a part of Grace Worship, we want something FOR you, not FROM you. This has been our guiding philosophy at Grace now for years, but it’s possible if you’re new or haven’t caught a lot of events yet, this is the first you’re hearing about this. Let me explain.
Often times (I’d say most of the time), especially in the Church, when people serve, it tends to be out of duty or devotion. We feel that God has gifted us in certain ways, or we have certain interests and we are willing to donate our time to a church because we think it’s important, or we’re commanded to serve. This isn’t inaccurate, but it’s certainly not the fullness.
At Grace, we believe that transformation happens best in the context of serving and relationships. When you find opportunities to serve, God has this way of just using those experiences and people to move you closer to him and shift the parts of your life that need alignment with your identity as a child of the king. This is what we want for each and every one of our volunteers.
So if we are in agreement and really believe we want something FOR you, and not FROM you, the question becomes “How do we lean in to what we know God wants to do in the lives of our people?”
I think the answer becomes clear. We want you to GROW. We want you to wake up with hope every single morning, like a kid on Christmas morning. We want you to believe, down in your bones that the Lord God will move BIG in every area of your life: relationships, money, job, health, life trajectory – any area of your life that does not glisten with hope is under the influence of a lie.
Understanding that this growth and alignment to your new nature in Christ is Gods will for every single one of us, everything we do at Grace and everything we ask of you is powered by a heart and vision of a community of creatives living wholistic Christian lives expectant for God to move every day and celebrating corporately the intimacy they experience with God every day of the week.
Culture is attracted to Vision. A big part of the feel we have, the environments we create, and the vibe in our space is culture. Our vision for you to grow in the 5 areas of health, our desire for you to be mobilized to live genuine lives of worship regardless of where you are or what you’re doing, and our passion to train, equip, and empower you to experience the joy and abundance of a wholistic Christian life is creating a culture that is irresistible and authentically life changing.
So what do you need to do?
Understand that your primary value is who you are in Christ, not what you’re capable of on stage.
Remember, God wants something for you and not from you. He wants to transform who you are and he wants you to live and walk in HOPE. So make this year’s trainings and events a PRIORITY in your life, and schedule the other things in your busy life around them as much as you can. (We’ve provided the entire calendar for the whole year to make this a reality for you.)
Go through the Wholistic shaping document (Phase VII) or ask your core leader to walk you through it and do it together.
Get to know your core leader in your area and work through your goals you created with them so we can encourage each other as we all take next steps together. (We’ll do some of this together when we connect next on September 15th)
Grow with us in the 5 areas of health as we all take this journey together.
