I’ve had the honor of being part of the grace church worship team for about a little over 9 years. I’ve seen a lot a lot of change over that time both in the team and myself. When I first started serving I was in college and would nap on a couch when we had a small green room backstage. I wasn’t always the most reliable (look at my recent post on FB) but the people were always gracious to me.
There were years I spent on the team that I honestly didn’t know half the names of the people I served with because I had the mentality to show up and play (I am also bad at names). I remember when it was announced that we would be moving back to a week night practice (back in the day we had Tuesday night practice), I was very skeptical about it. It was mostly selfish and I didn’t want rehearsals going late and being even more exhausted after a long day.
Spoiler alert, I was wrong.
One of the coolest changes I’ve seen in this worship ministry is the real relationships that have been formed from regularly spending time together before practice. I think one very important thing we can do as believers is to fellowship and encourage one another. It’s been amazing to grow as a team and to invest in each other’s lives by listening to and learning about each other.
I know that even when I’m showing up on Thursdays after a long stressful work week I am entering a time where I can have real connections about life and what’s going on as well as have time to worship with the team in preparation for the weekend.
