Do you ever wonder why some things are inspiring and others aren't?
Why does listening to one speaker make you want to get up and do something great, and another one make you go "meh."
Why do some companies drive fanatic-level followings and others don't?
Well, this guy named Simon Sinek seems to have a pretty good idea. He talks about it in his famous TED Talk and if you haven't seen it yet, go watch now. Seriously. It will only take 18 minutes, and it will be time well spent.
Great! Now that you've watched it, we're on the same page! I've been thinking about how we can apply the Golden Circle to Grace Music, and I'd like to spend a bit of time on one of our core beliefs:
"We believe in living lives of worship. We'll even use music if we have to."
Do you see how that connects to the Golden Circle? At our core, our WHY, is Jesus. Jesus is our WHY. He is why we are all here, why we are saved, and why we live the lives we live. He is our foundation, and without Him nothing else matters.
Living lives of worship is our HOW. How we live, how we act, and how we interact with others, are all forms of worship.
Music is just one small expression of lives lived in worship. For us, Music is the WHAT.
Does that make sense? It's not about the music. It's really not even about worship. It's all about Jesus.
Jesus as a man.
We are made pure and righteous in Him, and for that reason, we live worshipful lives. Sometimes we even use music.
So what does this all mean to you? What can we as a team and a family do with this? Well for starters, do some reflection on WHY you're part of the Production and Music teams. Is it because you like technology or want to sing or play? Do you have a gift you want to share? Are you looking for a date? While those aren't inherently bad things, I would challenge you to take it deeper. WHY do you want to play? WHY do you want to share your gift? WHY are you looking for a date? Do some real honest to goodness digging, and figure out your WHY for being here. If you're not sure, or your WHY doesn't line up, think about who Jesus is to you. How has your life been changed by Him? Who do you believe you are because of what He's done?
Once Jesus is at your core, once He is your WHY, you won't be able to help but to live a worshipful life! You'll see that you'll desire all aspects of your life to be worshipful, and music is just one of the great ways to do express a life centered around Jesus.
